July 2018 Highlights: 5 Cool Workspaces in Singapore

This July, we’ve featured some outstanding workspace options in our #AwesomeWorkspace series. They cater to a wide range of businesses, from the creative freelancer to the fast-growing tech startup. Whether you are looking for a hot desk at an innovative coworking space, a homey serviced office for your team, or a spacious office for long term leasing, this lineup of spaces might have something that suits your needs. Read this article to get a recap of each workspace, their unique qualities, and our space experts’ insights on why you should consider them for your business.

Rustic and charming serviced office in the East

From pictures alone, you wouldn’t believe that this space is actually a serviced office for rent. With a unique rustic beauty, this unit creates a homely and warm atmosphere that can take the edge off a typical work day’s stress. Beyond its charming interiors, this space also boasts 60% more space than the average serviced office in Singapore. It even offers members complimentary storage space. Although the office is not as centrally located as some of the other options on this list, it’s only a five-minute walk away from Tai Seng MRT on the Circle Line. Despite its vintage and industrial aesthetic, this space is equipped with all the modern amenities you need, including a high-speed WiFi connection and 24/7 secure card access.

Our Recommendation: This space is perfect for small businesses who require a decent amount of storage space. Furthermore, you want something distant from the corporate vibe of modern office buildings in Singapore.

High-end serviced offices in business hubs

This is not to say that the traditional corporate vibe is a bad thing by any means – for many client-facing businesses in sectors like consulting and finance, being located in a professional suit-and-tie setting can leave a good impression on clients and investors.

With that in mind, we also featured a line-up of five modern offices in Grade A office buildings run by a global serviced office operator. Each office is conveniently located near or within a prime business hub in Singapore: one lies in Buona Vista, another in the Suntec City cluster, and three at various spots within the CBD area. Buona Vista is an emerging centre for health tech startups and multinational companies, with global businesses like GlaxoSmithKline recently establishing their headquarters there. Suntec City, likewise, is heavily populated with companies in the tech space. In this integrated commercial development, you can access a number of F&B and retail options and a convention centre. As most know, the CBD is the heart of Singapore’s finance industry, with a number of FinTech companies mushrooming in the area. All of the buildings are united by a sleek, high-end design, an abundance of natural light, gorgeous high-rise views, and close proximity to a variety of amenities.

Our Recommendation: These offices are perfect for startups and small to medium-sized businesses (with a headcount of 10+) who want to build a brand reputation and take advantage of a prestigious business address. You are planning to grow quickly and expect to be in close contact with clients and investors.

Coworking for the creative professional

This coworking space is built for your creativity to run wild. Introduced to Singapore by a regional coworking operator, this space also has branches in Thailand and the Philippines, all of which are tailored for creative professionals. Located downtown, this space is just a short walk from Bugis, Bras Basah, Bencoolen and City Hall MRT stations. Amenities include a bar, cafe, and spacious venues for events, exhibits and meetings. The biggest draw is an on-site library for designers containing sample product catalogues, swatches and reference materials sourced from partner merchants. As a member, apart from getting to work with others in the creative design space, you can also gain inspiration from this extensive collection of materials.

Our Recommendation: If you are a design-preneur, creative freelancer or business looking to collaborate on creative projects, this space might be the one for you! You have access to all the inspiration for your own work and are instantly in touch with likeminded people.

Coworking for the tech-savvy startup

Apart from designers and creative freelancers, coworking options are also popular among companies in the tech space. That’s why we are bringing to you this innovative coworking space located right next to Kent Ridge MRT in the West.

While its location is not central, the space’s proximity to universities, research institutions, and innovation hubs like Block 71 make this site a great space for business growth. In line with its tech-savvy surroundings, this coworking space is highly tech-driven. It has a centralized system that allows you to easily book rooms, use an e-wallet system, and connect with other members. All members can purchase a group medical insurance coverage, use a payroll software and benefit from corporate travel discounts. On top of that, members are spoiled with regular breakfasts, Friday drinks and yoga sessions, among a plethora of lifestyle activities. With private offices, hot desks and dedicated desks available, this coworking space has plenty to offer.

Our Recommendation: This space is best suited for startups of small-sized businesses in the tech and R&D space who work best away from the hustle and bustle of the CBD. You are keen on a quick set-up and are drawn to a lively and bustling coworking culture available from the get-go.

Long term office for rent in the CBD

The first four workspaces we featured are flexible spaces, suitable for small to medium-sized businesses looking for a quick set-up and shorter lease terms. For businesses looking to settle in a space they can fully call their own, a long term space might be the best option.

The final workspace of July is a long term space nestled in Raffles Place, arguably the best address to be in the CBD. This unit is located in a premium Grade A building right above Raffles Place MRT and only three minutes away from Telok Ayer MRT. All individual offices come with a generous size of 11,065 square feet, giving you plenty of room to design and configure your space as you see fit. The standard lease term is 36 months with an option to renew for another 36 months. The space is unfurnished, giving you the opportunity to fully brand and decorate your interiors in a way that best represents your brand.

Our Recommendation: This space is best suited for businesses who have reached a stable headcount and foresee a long-term legacy. They want to formalize their brand identity and set up shop in a prestigious business location. Final Thoughts

This month, we featured serviced offices, coworking spaces, and one long term office for rent that cater to businesses across different industries and stages of growth. Of the two serviced office features, one is for businesses who need storage space and appreciate a homely atmosphere. The other is a more traditional, high-end lineup of offices. These are perfect for client-facing tenants who value a prominent business address. The two coworking spaces also cater to different crowds – one for the creative design-preneur and the other for the budding tech startup. Last but not least, the Raffles Place office is an ideal blank slate for any business looking to cement a physical presence for their brand.

Given the wide breadth of workspace types available, it is crucial that you understand which would align with the current needs of your business. To learn more about why you should consider each option, check out the guides we’ve written on coworking, serviced offices, and long term spaces.
